Delsea shuts out Deptford to advance to S.J., Group 3 semifinalsFball Headline

Some teams in South Jersey decided to push back their first-round playoff games due to the rainy weather on Friday night. That was not even a consideration for the Delsea football team. The second-seeded Crusaders grinded out a 20-0 win over seventh-seeded Deptford in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey, Group 3 playoffs in a game played in a constant downpour. Delsea improved to 6-3 with its fifth straight win and advanced to next week's sectional semifinals. Deptford fell to 5-4.

Delsea's back from the dead and right on time

The weather’s started to turn a tad chiller as the playoffs inch a bit closer and wouldn’t you know it, Delsea High School’s football team looks as alive as ever. In October, it’s fun to wonder about ghouls, goblins and creatures of the night. Yet, the only ghosts Friday came in the form of those who attempted arm tackles of star Crusaders’ running back Aidan Borguet. He went for 226 yards on 27 carries for four touchdowns in a 38-16 Homecoming win over Cedar Creek.

Borguet leads Delsea to stunning runaway against No. 7 Woodrow Wilson

It finally showed up on Saturday, and with the season in danger of slipping away, it could not have come at a better time. Under Marchese, the Crusaders have dominated South Jersey Group 3 in recent years with five titles in the last six seasons. They also won in 2000 and 2005, as well as claiming back-to-back South Jersey Group 2 titles in 2008 and 2009.

The 75 best players in N.J. HS football for 2018

Delsea's Aidan Bourget is ranked number 8 in all of NJ. The Harvard commit broke out last season, beginning the year with a 354-yard performance against Timber Creek and finishing with a school-record 2,208 yards and 31 overall touchdowns as he led Delsea to a fifth sectional title in six years.

After 2,000-yard season, Delsea's
Aidan Borguet ready for more

Aidan Borguet became a household name in South Jersey football circles. At the end of the year, Borguet had a school-record 2,208 yards and led the Crusaders to the South Jersey Group 3 championship, earning second-team all-state and South Jersey Times Offensive Player of the Year honors. After all of this he is still hungry for more. Borguet’s big season generated some FBS interest, including an offer from Rutgers. But he said he is firm with Harvard, a place he feels he can achieve all his goals – including making it to the NFL, where his grandfather was a defensive lineman for the Baltimore Colts
