Headlines and News

The boys track and field athletes who competed at the Meet of Champions this past Saturday capped off an amazing 2016-2017 sports year for Delsea. The school record holding boys 4x800 took 10th in their relay, even running 700m of the race with one shoe!! Bill Goldsborough took 13th in the disc and 19th in the shot put, doing what he did best all year, putting up big numbers. Keon Grady placed 10th in the long jump. Khaleil Burnett won the triple jump with a jump of 48 ft 9.5 inches, smashing the school record of 48 ft. even! South Jersey was well represented at the Meet of Champions, but I think Delsea helped to the rest of the state on watch for what we've got going on down here. Congratulations to all the competitors and coaches.

Khaliel Burnett wins Meet of Champions boys Triple Jump

Burnett entered the day as the second seed in the event behind Elizabeth senior Dodley Thermitus, whose seed distance of 48-2 ¾ outdid Burnett’s by 14 inches. Burnett jumped 47-0 ¾ to win the Group 3 title last weekend.
Burnett had fouled on two of his three attempts but qualified for the eight-person finals on his lone recorded jump of 46-8 1/2. Once the finals began, Burnett outdid that jump on all three attempts, topping out at 48-9 ½ in his last try.

Multiple State Champions for Delsea Track

track17states They're not done yet!! This past Friday and Saturday, some of our boys and girls track and field athletes represented Delsea in the group state championships. Just like at the sectionals, the teams brought their "A" games and we had very positive results. The boys finished in 3rd place, missing 2nd by one point, and even threatening for the lead most of the weekend! Two records were broken, we have two state champions, and we're sending 12 athletes to the Meet of Champions this Saturday (some running more than one event).

Khaliel Burnett is the NJ group 3 champion in the triple jump, with a jump of 47'3/4. Our girls 4x100 team (Cece Gerstenbacher, Toni Glatz, Kaire Brackett, and Daneesha Brown) are now state champs, with a time of 47.3. That time also broke the previous group 3 state record! Proving how good the competition is up there, our boys 4x800 team (Bill Mayhew, George Tenenberg, Colin Kane, and Mike Szwed) broke the school record with a time of 7:56.68, on their way to a second place finish. Other place winners include Bill Goldsborough in the shot, Nick Petriello in the pole vault, Keon Grady in the long jump, Toni Glatz in the 200, and Cece in the 200.
Please take the time to congratulate all of the athletes and coaches on their accomplishments, also wish them luck on Saturday.

Delsea wins Gloucester County Championship!

The Delsea boys team was able to bring home the team trophy by totaling 105 points. They were followed by Deptford with 100 and Kingsway with 82 points. Williamstown (47) and Woodbury (46) rounded out the top five finishers.
“It’s been a while … a few years actually, so this feels good,” Delsea coach Ronn Flaim said. “To be able to come out and do it on our turf and edge out a team like Deptford is awesome because they are incredible.”

Delsea boys bring home Group 3 title.

That’s the fortunate twist Delsea boys track and field coach Ron Flaim experienced early this spring. Junior Michael Szwed never competed in track until this year. Szwed, whose uncles and mother all participated in track in high school, is a three-year starter on the Delsea soccer team.
